Organise Your Wardrobe Like A Pro
Organising isn't just for making your home look better, it has health benefits too! Organising helps you manage stress, improves sleep, and contributes to a healthier lifestyle. Marie Kondo made organising popular again and now it's time for you to take her advice and get stuck into breathing new life into your wardrobe.
One Thing At A Time
As the old saying goes, you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time so take the same approach to organise your wardrobe. Start your organisation process by breaking everything down into categories. The first sensible step would be to organise your wardrobe into seasons and from there into small categories such as tops, shoes, bottoms, etc.
Do You Love It?
Life is too short to get bogged down with stuff. With everything organised into categories and lumped in one place, you can get a better picture of how much stuff you have. You don't wear all of these items, nor do you love them all. There are likely mornings you turn your nose up at a variety of outfits before pulling on the same thing you did just a few days ago. Why go through the stress? If it's taking up space and you haven't worn it in a while, it's time to ditch it. If it sparks joy? Give it pride of place in your closet. It's as simple as that.
Don't Give In To Nostalgia
Nostalgia gets all of us and it's the thing that leads us to hoard. "I can't throw away this dress from 23 years ago, I've had it for 23 years!" "I couldn't possibly let go of this jumper I haven't worn in seven years because I've held onto it all this time and oh the memories." Memories don't go away just because you scale down your possessions. You can keep the memory and ditch the clutter. You can't let nostalgia overcome your common sense. If you plan to wear it and it makes you feel confident you can hold on tight.
Fold & Hang
There's a right way and a wrong way to fold your clothes. The right way will ensure you have plenty of space for all the clothes you keep, and you will easily see exactly what you have so you can grab what you want. There's nothing worse than missing your favourite top or tee because it ends up at the bottom of the drawer for months before reappearing.
As far as hanging your clothing goes, the ideal method is to hang the heaviest clothing items on the left and the lighter on the right. If they are long, if they are thick, if they are dark then they should live to the left. It's pleasant to the eyes and good for the mind.
Capsule wardrobes are all the rage and the best way to turn yours into one is to start with organising out what doesn't work for you. Since you have worked so hard to organise your wardrobe, don't forget to give it a good clean down before you're done. A wardrobe that is clean and organised is going to help you keep a clear mind too.
Don’t forget to have fun.
